Watching Rebels and re-watching episodes 4, 5 and 6, the Ghost seems to be able to take quite a bit more of a hit than the Falcon pre-episode 6. Falcon of course has more of the iconic feel and is a much more loved ship, but the Ghost looks like it's more technologically sound, at least in terms of shielding and armor. I think the Falcon has more maneuverability and speed, as well as a higher range of fire. Falcon has escape pods, but the Ghost has a small shuttle that can be used in the middle of a dogfight to add a second ship to the battle, gaining more tactics in the middle of a dogfight.
What do you guys think? Is my analysis accurate? And here comes the big question. Which ship would stand a better chance in a one-on-one fight?
Ghost still gets to keep its shuttle to use in the fight. My money is on the Falcon still. The Falcon is a smuggling ship.
It's not built to take a hit, it's built to outrun the enemy, and that's actually what we see it do most of the time. The only straight-up fights we see are the Death Star escape (where the Empire was going easy on them in order to track them back to the Rebellion base), and the big battle in ROTJ, where the Falcon does just kick total ass. The Ghost is definitely a burlier ship, much more well maintained, and has a wider range of tactical options. This suits its purpose as more of a military vessel.
I think the ships also reflect the personalities of their captains. Han Solo is very rough around the edges, more likely to trick his opponent rather than fight straight up, and ready to run at the first sign of trouble. Hera is a much more responsible leader, and has been willing to risk her ship in order to complete a mission.
